It was a zero day...not zero skis, zero temperature. Fort down-staters, it was about 25 degrees colder than anyone was used to. Up-staters had experienced some colder temperatures, but it was still COLD!

LATEST TRAIL CONDITIONS

FRI, FEB 15

Bay City State Park: Beautifully groomed trail. Groomer does a great job creating not only tracks for classic skiers but packs down adjacent snow for hikers. Track is fast with the crusty snow. About 8" on the trail. Minimal oak leaves in the tracks even after the high winds. A bit of snow would make it almost perfect.

Muncie Lakes Pathway: Thanks to the volunteer groomers who help make Muncie a great system. Deep classic tracks on this narrow trail that snakes through the woods. Folks heed the signs so no damage by snowshowers and walkers. A fantastic afternoon.

Huron Meadows Metropark: Skate lane and classic tracks are icy. Tracks are shallow.
Connector from building to woods is basically a sheet of ice. Gets better in woods. You may want to walk out to woods.
Should be better tomorrow if they till and groom again in morning.

Snow piles are almost gone. Are we going to continue to make snow?????
Still a lot of ski season left.

Milham Park Golf Course: Ran the groomer around Milham this morning. Used the sno-razor to try to break up surface, condition of the trail was not improved. I would call the trail poor right now. At least 50% of the course is boiler plate ice. The rest is boiler plate with a bit of snow on top. Took groomer onto parts of course that had not been groomed previously and trail was hardly scratched. I believe skiers will find best conditions on the ungroomed fairways. Lets hope for a couple of inches of snow to make Milham great again.

Vasa Trail: Another 4"-5" of fresh snow the past 24 hours, of which half of it is under this morning's full system skate lane grooming, and the other half on top of it. Fortunately it is light fluffy snow that one lady described as "super fast fluff." Classic tracks remain in good condition. Snow gauge on the 4K signpost indicates compacted base depth of 11", and settled snow in the woods is probably 3' after SnowMaggen II.

Tomorrow 10 am - 1 pm will be another TART Open House at the TH complete with a warming fire, homemade cookies and hot chocolate, and meet the awesome grooming team. I hear that a rare special appearance will be made by El Sol.

Black Mountain: A terrific base for skiing has been rolled at Black Mountain. The entire system is packed with a deep snow depths. No classic tracks have been set yet, as snow conditions and winds are continually adding to the trails. There is a lot of snow, and groomers may be out this weekend to lay track if conditions are favorable. For now, there is great skiing conditions that should be around for quite some time, through the second half of February. The ski race event scheduled for March 2 and 3 looks very promising for the best conditions for optimal skiing. Check out details on the current newsletters located at the four trail head parking areas. Come out and ski Black Mountain in this winter wonderland, and register for the race event as a tour skier or a racer!

Crystal Mountain: As promised, Greg is in the process of grooming. He's been out there since 6am trying to keep up with the blowing snow. Some sections of trails on the golf course may be drifted over a little bit but the woods and the hills should be great. I will be grooming tomorrow. Come on out and enjoy the fresh snow while it lasts-you never know how long it will be here. Don't forget about the paintball biathlon Sunday.

Shanty Creek - Schuss Mtn: Soft, dry snow on freshly groomed trails.
Brad the Classic Skier reports:
Go Classic!!
-Timing
-Transfer of weight

-Balance
Rather soft for efficient skate skiing.

Boyne Mountain: Wow! 3" this morning between 9 and 10:30. Six inches of new fluff overnight, with lots of wind.

All trails are open. Groomers are out now. The snow is fabulous!

Vistas/Deer Run is not recommended today due to the wind.

Boyne Mountain: After another foot of fluff yesterday, skiing is fantastic! All trails are open and groomed. Upper trails were groomed yesterday. Lower trails have been regroomed this morning.

Take your sweet Valentine out for a spin around Boyne!

Hanson Hills: We have received 2-3 inches of new snow, Groomers Jason and Tommy G. Will packing and combing the trail system the first part of the morning. Skate lanes are soft. If you are looking for tracks our Wilderness Trail will be the trail of choice.. Lodge and Trails open at 9am.

Forbush Corner: Well, it’s snowing again, yeah! We received a couple inches overnight and now the lake effect bands have set up and will continue through the morning. We will be continuing to groom up the trails all day to get everything ready for some great skiing. Weather quiets down for the weekend.

Cross Country Ski Headquarters: We received just over an inch of fresh snow last night, bringing the total accumulation for the week to about 12-13 inches. Temps rose to just above freezing yesterday, which added some moisture to our snowpack, making it all the better for today and the weekend! Groomer Mike will snow comb the trails this morning and reset tracks where needed. Snow depth in the woods is 23 to 26 inches, and packed on the trail about 12 to 14 inches. It just doesn't get any better than this!

Today’s Stone Turtle Day Lodge Cafe the Mediterranean Tuna Panini! Albacore tuna, feta cheese, black olives, banana peppers, sun-dried tomatoes, pesto and spinach on sun-dried tomato bread! Grilled to perfection and served with Great Lakes Chips and a pickle. Enjoy this fantastic winter weekend!
